Correspondence –Mailing from American Income Life Insurance – Do Not respond to it unless you want a company rep to contact you for more insurance. Failure to respond does not affect the $2500 accidental life insurance coverage through AWSC membership; WATVA NW Regional meeting – 8/13/11 @ Iron River Community Center w/ride sponsored by Trails North ATV Club. Any member welcome to attend; Thank You from Dolly McNamara (death of sister).
Trail Committee Update: Brett – Trail Committee meeting held 7/7/11. Brett & Tim meet with Wausau Paper on 7/11 to review proposal and make changes as needed. Wausau Paper has come up with an alternate route in the Williams Rd area as they will be logging there soon. Brett proposes to scout out trail on Douglas County Forestry land ASAP. Tim will request ATV use in doing so from Mark Shroeder next week.
Building Committee: Marvin reports the committee (Mike B., Kathy, Vicki/Gordy Knutson & Marvin met7/6. They want members to do ballot vote on the following: Storage building only vs club house/storage building. Preferred site for building is the old helipad next to GVFD. Mick will prepare ballot with vote being taken at the next club meeting on 8/14/11. She will email members with pending vote information; whoever is unable to attend meeting to vote can vote via email instead.
OLD BUSINESS:
Summer Ride – 6/18 went to Trego & back through surrounding area.
County Road Signs – No signs up yet on Cty A & M; NWTA does not meet in July; Larry requested that Cty M from Roos Rd to W Mail Rd be submitted with next request as the route dead-ends @ Roos Rd with W Mail Rd just ¼ mile away; NWTA can no longer afford to cover costs of signs; Individuals and/or clubs will have to pay for additional route; Question – could Jackpine Riders and our club share cost of this section??? Larry will ask with them. He also believes Moose Bar would/could solicit donations from patrons as this route connects Superior/Solon to the rest of the system.
Good Neighbor Days report: Mick says “thank you” to the following members who volunteered for the concession stand 7/2: Bob Hegg, Dawn Busche, Mike/Jean Bowe, Gordy/Vicki Knutson, Janet Tracy, Phyllis Baillargeon, Dave/Kelly King, Brad/Celia DeColon, Tim & Ken Wood for raising $1500+ in sales. The vendor booth downtown on 7/2 was not as successful but many renewed memberships were obtained.
Grooming bills (Barnes & Haakenson): nothing done yet. Tabled.
Meeting survey: Kathy suggested we continue to meet @ the Ball Park through Sept. with that meeting being a family picnic & the Oct/Nov meeting assigned to Halfway House & St. Croix River Lanes, the 2 businesses who did not have a meeting in the year prior to trial period.
Membership in attendance agreed. Mick will contact them. Discussion of the Xmas party tabled to next meeting.
August Fundraiser: Final recap of events will be held after the 8/14 meeting. Need more members to sell raffle tickets; Mick will do a mailing. AWSC Report: Tim/Mick will be attending the quarterly meeting on 7/14-15 in Siren.
UTV Trail passes – Out of state UTV’s are not eligible for a trail pass. Only UTV’s registered in the State of WI can legally use ATV trails during the trial period ending June 2012. Not all 72 counties in the State are participating in the trial use period.
50/50 Raffle – no drawing held as no coupon tickets available. $15.00 donated to club by members.
MISCELLANEOUS:
Trail #17 misuse: Tom reports the “No ATV’s” signs have been removed from the finger-trails going off of Trail #17. We will lose this segment of trail IF this illegal trail misuse continues. There is the suspicion that a club member may have done this which is sad for the club. We are building a good rapport with Wausau Paper and misuse cannot be tolerated. Again, the misuse of a small percentage could ruin trail use for all! Discussion resulted in the determination to replace these signs and watch for misusers.
Bass Lake Road closure: Marvin reports the Wascott Town Board voted 3-1 to keep Bass Lake Rd open to ATV use. Good news!
Wild River Trail (WRT) problems: Our commercial members have been receiving numerous complaints of cut tires on ATV’s travelling on the WRT between County Y and County T. The rock is so sharp it is cutting tires. ATV’ers do not generally carry extra tires as that should never be a problem on a multi-use trail. The club will send a letter of complaint to North West Trails Ass’n as they are responsible for the club maintaining this stretch of trail. This is bad for business and bad for Douglas County in general.
Motion to adjourn: Motion to adjourn @11:25 AM by Kathy/Dolly - carried.
Next meeting: Sun, Aug 14, 2011 @ Gordon Ballpark - 10AM
Respectfully submitted by Mick Johnson, Secretary
